This is a shot from Hawaii during a recent trip in January of this year. The past few times I've gone to Hawaii (it seems to be my families favorite travel destination) the main activity of the trip has been diving. At this point, I've dove in Hawaii more than I've dove anywhere else which is pretty sad interesting considering I live it Florida and could dive just about every weekend if I wanted. Regardless, there are probably only a few places that are better to dive than Hawaii anyway. This trip was my first one to the Big Island and while I had read about the diving before the trip, I was a little surprised at just how different it was from diving on Maui. Being the youngest Hawaiian Island, the water in many places goes from a few feet deep to over sixty feet deep in just a matter of 25 - 50 yards. In fact, I went down to 100 feet without even realizing it and have a picture to prove it in case someone doesn't believe me!

One of the things I read about was the world famous manta diving on the Big Island which we did with Jack's Diving Locker. We boarded the boat at about 5 o'clock p.m. had a 'warm up dive' which the photo from above is from. This shot was taken after the dive right before I swam back over to climb up on board to head to our second dive. After about what seemed like 30 minutes ride down south, we finally arrived at our final dive spot. By this time it was pitch black out with only a glimmer of light shining from a pre-placed bank of lights in the water that would be used to attract the plankton that the manta rays eat. After jumping in the water it quickly became apparent that diving at night is an all new experience unlike anything I've experienced despite having around 50 dives under my belt. At night a whole new group of creatures come out that you just don't see during the day. It was really amazing and something I hope to do a good amount more of. The manta rays were amazing and absolutely huge. I'd highly recommend this dive to anyone going to the Big Island.

I have some videos that I've been meaning to post to YouTube but I can't find them at the moment but will update this section once I do find them. Until then check this video search on Google for Big Island Manta Night Dive.

This photo does not have any GPS data associated with it. It's my goal to have GPS data for all my photos but unfortunately it is just not always possible.
