About F/1.8

Started in 2004, F/1.8 was first launched to provide a method of sharing my photography with everyone and anyone who might enjoy it. Originally running an extremely hacked up version of MovableType, I wanted to transition the site to Wordpress in 2005. After starting to rebuild and redesign, I eventually lost focus and abandoned the site. With graduating from college, moving to Florida, and starting a new job I just never really took the time to get back to basics and do what I really enjoy; share my photography. Thankfully I didn't stop taking pictures so I've been able to build a wealth of photographs that you will be seeing for a long time to come.

The version of F/1.8 you are viewing now is proudly built using Django. Dubbed "the Web framework for perfectionists with deadlines," Django has allowed me to build a fully custom back-end which the site is uses for content management while also giving me the freedom to design the front-end I wanted. While always my goal, building such a system has been challenging. Although confident in my web design skills, I've never thought of myself as a developer (and still don't). However with a couple of months of casual developing and a solid month of almost daily coding, I've been able to come up with something I am confident will provide a solid foundation on which to expand and grow. I've acquited myself with the basics of python, the programming language on which django is built (for all the none web geeks), and have started to feel comfortable with django as a web framework to build my applications with.

About Me

Born in 1982, I've lived in New Jersey, Georgia, and currently reside in Orlando, Florida. Professionaly, I work as a graphic designer but I have a personal passion for anything and everything design which in my eyes includes photography. I'm also comfortable calling myself a geek and I even have a personal philosphy on the differences between geeks and nerds; ask me sometime.

Getting into Photography

I have to admit that I'm a complete digital baby. While I had an interest in photography before the advent of digital, the barriers of entry (mainly developing time and costs) prevented me from really taking that interest seriously. Call my impatient but there is nothing more frustrating to me than taking a picture you think will just be amazing only to find out a day or two later after processing that it didn't quite turn out the way you envisioned. Don't get me wrong, I've used film cameras but more for average photography than the more abstract and professional look I strive for today. I got my first digital camera, a Canon Digital Rebel 300D, at the very end of 2003 and have taken well over 7,000 pictures with it. I've recently upgraded to a Canon Digital Rebel XTi and the Canon 24mm-70mm f/2.8 L lens which is just amazing compared to the glass I was using before. To the right you can check out a full listing for equipment I've used.

If I had to describe my style, I'd probably call it eclectic. Most importantly, my photography is a work in progress. I know some of my photos are just so so but I also believe some of them are truly great. Ultimately, you're the judge so please don't hesitate to a comment or just let me know what you think privately.
